All sewer repair methods interact with the property. The practical comparison is how each reaches the defect, fits the pipe condition, manages connections and grade, and restores affected surfaces.
Lining rehabilitates a suitable host pipe
A liner forms a new interior within a cleaned and prepared pipe. It may reduce continuous surface excavation, but installation access and connection work remain. The host pipe must be suitable for the proposed system.
Ask about cleaning, diameter change, bends, service connections, curing, quality checks, and the conditions that would stop the installation.
Pipe bursting installs a replacement
A bursting head displaces the old pipe while pulling new pipe through the alignment. Entry and receiving pits, working space, nearby utilities, soil movement, and connections affect the plan.
Ask where pits will be located, whether the replacement changes diameter, how each end is connected, and how work near other buried facilities is controlled.
Excavation exposes the work directly
Open excavation provides direct access to repair or replace a pipe and can address alignment or surrounding conditions that some rehabilitation methods cannot. Its surface impact can be greater.
Define the trench or pit limits, shoring and site protection, removed materials, backfill and compaction, paving or landscape restoration, and responsibility for permits.
